Is there still nothing happening in Darlington that you would like to do? If this is the case drop us a comment to let us know your ideas!

Me and all my mates hardly ever meet up on weekends and holidays because there's just nowhere to go. We think there should be a builidng completely dedicated for our age with things to keep us busy and able to go their to chat with our friends and have fun. It should be open after school times and on weekends.Because if you think about it, everything is for the younger ones and for adults and our age don't feel wanted or discouraged to go to places like the Arts Centre because ther is nothing to do! From Sophie aged 13 P.S Tnks for the website though.

Thanks for you comments! You will be pleased to know that the Council along with a number of other organisations have applied for some money to build 'world class' youth facility in the town. Hopefully this building will meet all your requirements! If you would like to know more on this project please feel free to email me on joanne.king@darlington.gov.uk. Also what would the Arts Centre and places like that need to do to make you feel more welcome? Jo

When you say stuff to keep us busy what exactly do you mean?? We have a Youth Club at St Mary's Community Hall every Sunday. From 14 you could go for the Duke of Edinburgh Award.

Keep an eye on Youth Services as well - they run a lot of events and other Youth Clubs.

I mean there is nowhere to go and just chill with my friends and have a laugh and a coke or something. The artscentre isnt welcoming cos the staff give u weird looks as u walk in as if u r gunna cause trouble and its like, not all young people are bad!!! I was stopped at the dolphin centre wen me nd my mate were heading up to the resturaunt for summit 2 eat after shoppping and the bodyguard asked us where we were going and told us to BUY something and not justb sit there - would he say that to an adult? No! There are notes up on shop windows saying so under 16s allowed or no more than 2 under 16s and then we get YELLED at if theres 3 of us or something. Would you ever see a note on a hop door saying no more than two adults in a time? Would you yell if an adults walked int a shop like that? No. No-one thinks about these possibilities. I think a buulding should be made for us teenagers and get us away from the TV screens and the sofa. I know there are various youth clubs at churches and stuff but what if you aren't religious? What if you don't have a christian belief or catholic or anything? Me and my friend went 2 a youth club the other day and all the leaflet said was giant inflateables! Food and drink! Live band! We though great! We got there and at the end they tried to get us to 'follow the christian way' and thats great if thats what u want to do, but we just went there for fun and we left a little bit shaken. So I hope you take these comment sinto consideration when building the new building. (sorry for spelling mistakes I'm typing quick!) Sophie :)

Sophie, thanks so much for your comments! We will most certainly keep your comments in mind if we are successful in the bid to build a dedicated youth faciltiy. Also I have forwarded your comment to one of my collegues who runs the rE-view project as there are lots of article's on there about peoples attitudes towards young people. If you want to check it out and add your views visit www.reviewproject.co.uk. Keep the comments coming!

There are things on at the arts centre. I go to the artspark youth theatre there, it's on every Wednesday at different times depending on age group. It costs £35 for a term which is 10 weeks, and it is really great! It helps build your confidence, make great friends and you get to perform at the end of it too! You also get discounts on theatre tickets so thats an added bonus! If you don't like theatre then theres also artspark youth dance. There's also an aerobics session at a church near where I live on the North Road Area, just down from Jazz's fish shop, not quite sure what the name of the church is though, and not sure of the date and time :( Sorry
Is there a youth radio station by the way? Because that would be a great idea! :)

Thanks for your positive comments about the Artspark programme! The development of a youth radio is in it's very early stages. Anyone interested in helping needs to contact michael.clark@darlington.gov.uk.

I think that the idea of a building tottally for young people is a absoloutly great idea. As there is hardly anything to do in Darlington for teenagers.

Thanks for your responses! I'm glad you think the idea of the centre is a good idea and I'm sure if the centre goes ahead it will be open on weekends. Is there any activities in particular you would like to see happen in the Centre or around Darlington in general?

I agree ! A whole building just for teenagers is like the best ideaa ever. There could be like different rooms where you could do different things, and then just a main chillout lounge. Not like a religous gathering or nothing (even though Im religous, if people talk about religion, they will go to a specific place of group for tha) I've told my maates about this idea, and they strongly agree too :] Ohh,and some dance classes like, i dont know, hip hop or somthing like that, would be cool. Were abouts could we go for them? (just to like pay everytime you go there)

my brother used to play on the street with his friend and because they used to destroy the flowers in the garden and knock the ball over the fence and there was nowhere to play.we did play on abbey field and so did everyone else but then they fenced it off.so my brother played on the street but one, day they knocked over a plant pot with flowers in it, and my mum had to pay for it then they did it again and this time the person over the road said dont let them play on the road any more. so now he has no where to play with his mates. can you please get a centre so we can play, can it also be open on weekends

Hi Liam, I'm glad to here you go to the Dolphin Centre on a Friday! What type of things would you like to do during the week? There's lots of different things happening from football competitions on a Wednesday, MAD Thursday events in various parks across the town, Harry Potter film screenings in the library again on a Thursday afternoon and various sports coaching sessions through out the week too! Does this help?

Hello Me! Thanks for your comment - I'm sorry you feel there is still nothing to do in Darlington, what would you like to do?
In terms of the issue in the Cornmill I will raise it with the T3 group, a group of young people who deal with issues affecting young people in Darlington and also Darlington's Member of Youth Parliment. Do you have any suggestions about how this issue could be resolved?
Jo

Hi, Thanks for checking out the website! This summer we have something called MAD Thursday's happening in parks across the town. At these events there is a climbing wall, human demolition zone, graffit and henna workshops, caged football and lots of other exciting activities - it will be in South Park on Thursday 20 August between 1pm and 4pm. Hope this helps!
