Volunteers & Coaches

Since the 1st June 2009 Zone Active in partnership with Darlington Sport Development and Tees Valley Sport has enabled 33 coaches to access 56 courses across 13 different sports. Sports included Athletics, Football, Street Cheer, Boxing Tutor and Basketball amongst others.

These qualifications will not only improve the knowledge of local coaches but will also allow the service to deliver a more comprehensive programme of activities hoping to engage a wider range of people in a sport and healthy lifestyle.

In addition to sports specific courses the funding has also enabled 42 participants to gain the Level 2 Award in Community Sports Leadership qualification, 13 candidates attended the Safeguarding and Protecting Children workshop and over 40 candidates have become First Aid qualified. Zone Active are actively encouraging all CSLA candidates to undertake their 10 voluntary hours within Darlington Sport Development, Zone Active, Local Clubs and Community Sessions. This should increase the opportunities for people to access sport within the town whilst also expanding the knowledge and skills of the coaches within the town.
